INVEST IN THE REAL THING WHEN LEARNING MARTIAL ARTS SELF DEFENSE
62Unfortunately, we cannot get into a time machine and wander back to an era when it was safe to walk the streets. This is lamentable but that’s the way things are nowadays. If you believe that you can get through life safely without knowing some semblance of a martial arts technique or other self defense training then you are very naïve. Thugs have no idea how proficient you are in terms of defending yourself and always assume that the person whom they are attacking is weak and defenseless. This means that there is no better reason to learn a martial arts self defense technique in order to completely bamboozle your assailant and cause them to run for the hills.

Don't Get Into the Wrong Course
The problem you have is choosing a program that will help you. It is easy to get caught up in the latest fad and believe that a certain new production is the answer to all your woes. Many of these videos are little more than shameless cash-in jobs which have no place in shops. Besides being useless, these videos are actually dangerous because they give those who follow the video’s advice the false impression that they are suddenly experts in martial arts. Anyone who has practiced kung-fu or a similar form will tell you that it takes years of discipline and hard work in order to achieve a high level of expertise. Therefore, videos that promise to turn you into Jackie Chan are frauds and thus should be avoided.
Do it Right
The only thing worse than following bad advice however is to do nothing when you’re attacked. Actually, there are some ‘experts’ who think that allowing the thug to have their way with you will result in you getting hurt less. Nothing could be further from the truth. When you think about it, is an attacker more likely to continue their assault on someone who does not defend themselves or an individual who fights for their lives using martial arts self defense? It must be remembered that thugs are bullies and cowards and do not relish a fair fight. So allowing them to do as they wish plays directly into their hands. It is much better to fight with honor than meekly surrender.

Strike First
If you get into a situation where you are the victim of an attack, you should always attempt to strike first regardless of whether you are trained in martial arts or not. Virtually all attackers will try and get in close to do maximum damage to you. Don’t allow them to do this by striking them hard, early and often. It should be remembered that most attacks last only a few seconds. If an attacker feels that they are not getting the best of the affair they are likely to flee in order to escape police intervention.
Avoid Panic
Nobody likes the idea of being attacked but unfortunately that is the way the world we live in is these days. Avoid panicking and buying some nonsense video that claims to be able to turn you into a kung-fu machine, never allow the attacker to have their way and always try to hit first to give yourself every chance of surviving a street attack.
