All you have to do is turn on the television for a few minutes to drive home the importance of learning self defense. You see violence on the news. There is violence all over nighttime television. You can hear violence in songs on the radio and your kids are seeing it in video games. All this means is that violence is a part of our lives; like it or not. It always has been and it always will be. Somehow it is tied to human nature.

So what can you do to increase your personal safety when you are running between errands and work and kids activities? Life is so busy that fitting in one more thing – even something this important – seems like an insurmountable task. And so you go through another day on auto-pilot, forgetting the need that is real and tangible to create more personal safety around you.

Learn within a busy schedule

The good news is that there are ways to learn self defense on a busy schedule. While you might initially balk at the idea of delving into a self defense DVD; you would be surprised at just how effective a learning tool this is. When you need to learn something about personal safety and have little time to spare, a self defense DVD just makes sense.

Learning moves from a self defense DVD has its merit; and the huge benefit of time efficiency. All you need to do is devote 15 to 20 minutes a day to watching one or two moves on a self defense DVD and practicing those one or two moves for another few minutes. The next day, practice the moves that you learned the day before for a few minutes; and the next day, watch another one or two moves on your self defense DVD. Continuing this practice of watching every other day and practicing on the days in between can provide you with an effective way to really gain knowledge about self defense without throwing off your busy schedule.

Do your Research

Of course, anytime you set out to learn something new, there is somewhat of a time commitment. Learning self defense, even from a self defense DVD, doesn’t relieve you of this time commitment. But because your safety and the safety of your family is important to you; it’s just a matter of carving out those few minutes a day to improve your lives and ensure that every member of your family has a way to defend themselves should they ever need to.

Now for finding the right program. Before you rush out and buy a martial arts program, thinking you will learn effective self defense; you need to do a bit of research on the actual moves included in that program and research actual self defense programs. These are different than martial arts, although in the beginning many moves may look the same. There is more to self defense than strikes and kicks; and a true combat self defense DVD will go into the ins and outs of self defense and show you highly effective techniques that are easy to learn and remember when you need them.

This is just most people wanting a self defense program yet have a busy schedule must have. It could really be fun learning self defense in our homes. Just spending a little time would impart a lot of knowledge. One good thing is that, if we learn it in our homes through a video, not only us would learn but also our family members as well.
