Hand to hand combat is actually used to describe weaponless, close range fighting from a military perspective. Therefore, knowing hand to hand combat training is extremely useful for self defense purposes which usually involves close-up fighting. If a thug thinks that they can get the better of you in a street attack, your training will not only give you the edge, it will probably scare them off once they realize who they’re messing with. Such training should be taken very seriously, so if you’re not ready to learn, be prepared to fail. This article will show you how to strike at close range using your fists, elbows and knees.

Remain cool and Avoid Panic

When an attacker comes at you, it generally happens so fast that they are within striking distance in seconds. This is where you have to remain cool and not panic when the time comes to act. If your assailant tries to grab you, you have a variety of options including a swift punch to the solar plexus. Proper hand to hand combat training will teach you how to put your full weight behind the punch for maximum impact. A solar plexus strike will wind your opponent when done correctly, giving you the opportunity to put them down and make your escape. Another excellent way to halt an onrushing attacker is with a strike to the throat. They will not expect this and it will leave them on the ground gasping for air.

Close Combat Training

Using your elbows

Defending with your elbows is something that is learned in good hand to hand combat training courses but is rarely utilized. The point of contact should be just below the point of the elbow and you shouldn’t strike with the elbow out by the side of the body, otherwise you will lose effectiveness. Just like striking with your hands, aim for soft areas of the body like the stomach or throat. You can also strike your attacker’s head, but you need to be careful not to damage your elbow. Nonetheless, if the situation calls for such action, then don’t hesitate to act. A sore elbow is much better than the possible alternatives!

Using your feet

While using your feet is a popular aspect of hand to hand combat training, don’t neglect the use of your knees. The knee is a hard object and it can be extremely hard to defend against, particularly given the surprise factor. One of the best ways to use the knee is when an attacker comes at you from the front. They will leave their mid section exposed to a crashing knee which can instantly cause them to drop to the floor in considerable anguish. And of course, the classic knee to the groin is not pretty, but you’ll be hard pressed to find another method that’s more effective at disabling a thug.

When you go to learn hand to hand combat training, the above are some of the basic techniques that you should be taught. Each of them are effective at ending an attack and can also be used in combinations. A strike to the throat can be followed by a knee to the groin and finished off by an elbow to the head if necessary. Such self defense will keep attackers bay and keep you safe.

Your video on FOX Good Day Tampa was amazing. Now to just think of executing those moves in a time of need would be great. Going to forward this to people so that they also might learn how to defend themselves. Thanks!
