3 Reasons to Learn Self Defense
77Close Combat Training
There are obvious reasons why you would think of learning self defense. All you have to do is watch the news for a few minutes and you are reminded that violent crimes occur in any city or town at any time of day. However, once you turn off the news at night, your mind is immediately occupied with all the tasks and responsibilities of life and the though to learn is long gone before it has a chance to spark action in you.
The reasons to learn self defense are real. They are actually even changing with the times. Just a few decades ago; people would come home with an armful of groceries and leave the sleeping baby in the car knowing they were perfectly safe. Many people even left their doors and windows open at night to let the cool night air make the home more comfortable after a long day. ALL NIGHT.
Dont make these mistakes
These are not things you would even think to do today. You don’t leave your purse in the car or leave the car running as you head back into your house to get something you forgot. You do, however, talk on the cell phone when out in public. You may park your car in a dark parking lot without ever thinking to look around. You may have the perception of safety because, after all, there is someone on the other end of the phone line. This is the number one way to make yourself a target for an attack.
One major reason to learn self defense is the sheer fact that violent crimes occur. This could be robbery or rape or even abduction. There are no rules when it comes to violence. All a bad guy needs is a window of opportunity; and you just may be giving it to him by your lack of awareness. When you learn self defense, you learn to become aware of your surroundings. You learn safety tips that keep you out of danger to such an extent that you may never have to use actual self defense strikes or kicks on someone. This is a victory.

Why you should learn it
In your town, you may hear that crimes are going down. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t learn self defense, and there is one good reason why. Something many cities across the U.S. are seeing is s decrease in services due to budget cuts. This means that police forces are dwindling. Even if you do not hear of layoffs, there can be issues behind the scenes affecting your police force. Perhaps there is a hiring freeze. Perhaps there are pay cuts leading officers to seek employment in another town. Whatever the reasons for the lack of response from police; the bottom line is that your personal safety is more and more falling into your own lap. To stay safe, you need to learn self defense. You cannot rely on the 911 system to get to you soon enough to save you.
The last reason to learn self defense may be a surprising one. This reason has nothing at all to do with violence and protection; it has to do with you and how you view yourself. When you learn self defense – true self defense – something in you changes. You have higher confidence and an awareness not only of yourself but about your surroundings and other people. This confidence bleeds into other parts of your life and sets you up for added successes in all that you do.
Self defense is about protection, yes; but there are many other reasons why you would want to learn it.
